The ProTec Air Bridge 2000 is a convection
air-cooled bolt-in replacement for the aged and problematic
water-cooled diode bridges that were originally supplied with
the Alterrex Excitation Systems. Named for its current carrying
capacity, the ProTec Air Bridge 2000™ offers enhanced functionality,
ease of use and minimal installation cost. The ProTec Air
Bridge 2000™ is the economic answer to problematic water-cooled
systems.
The ProTec Air Bridge 2000 is a convection air-cooled
replacement for the original water-cooled diode rectifiers.
In order to minimize retrofit costs, it has been designed
specifically to be a bolt-in replacement for the
original water-cooled bridges. The ProTec Air Bridge 2000
eliminates the need for cooling water thereby eliminating
the expense of the maintenance and repair of leaks, copper
tracking, corrosion, isolation valve failures, pipe blockages
and erosion that have been common problems among the water-cooled
systems.
The ProTec Air Bridge 2000 not only eliminates the
problems associated with water-cooled rectifiers, but it provides
the benefit of increasing the current carrying capacity from
1600 Amps (the amp rating of the original bridge) to 2000
Amps. The original twenty-four diode system is replaced with
a six-diode convection air-cooled system. Heat sink
fans are included and controlled by heat sink thermostats
if for any reason emergency cooling is needed. Each of the
six diodes is mounted between two high efficiency heat sinks
designed specifically for this application. The heat sink
clamp is pre-calibrated and has a force indicator. Thermostats
for controlling the heat sink fans and Resistive Temperature
Detectors are wired to terminals for remote monitoring.
The ProTec Air Bridge 2000 includes AC line fuses that
have been selected to provide steady-state, short circuit
and I2T protection of the diodes. The I2T protection will
allow the fuse to clear before damage to the diode occurs.
Blown fuse indicators are wired to a terminal strip for remote
monitoring.
The ProTec Air Bridge 2000 also includes two 2000 amp,
50 mV shunts - one in the positive and one in the negative
output leg. The 50 mV shunt outputs are wired to terminals
for remote monitoring.
