KEVIN NICHOLS
Kevin Nichols founded ProTec, Inc. in 1996, following a desire to ensure excellent quality and service customers. He is an excitation system specialist with over 25 years of experience in the areas of excitation systems and emergency diesel generator governors, serving primarily the power generation and utilities industry. Kevin’s expertise and knowledge are sought out by engineers and technicians in power plants, independent power producers and OEMs, based on his successful track record and reputation in the industry.
Prior to founding ProTec, Kevin was a technical manager for HPC Technologies, where he performed excitation system and governor training (both on-site and open enrollment). In addition, he was responsible for managing all electrical and I&C training services offered by the company. Prior to working for HPC, Kevin was a technical instructor for General Physics Corp., where he performed on-site excitation system and governor training primarily within the nuclear industry.
Kevin is a proud veteran, having served in the US Navy for 9 years before entering the private industry. While serving, he qualified and performed as an Engineering Watch Supervisor, overseeing nuclear power plant operations on Los Angeles-class fast attack submarines. During the last 3½ years of service, Kevin was a technical instructor for prospective nuclear power plant operators at Naval Nuclear Power School.
ROBERT “BUZZ” SAWYERS
With over 25 years of experience in power generation-related electric systems, their maintenance and management, Robert “Buzz” Sawyers has held every job category to support his leadership in electrical engineering solutions. His experience includes nuclear energy plant equipment, diesel generators and AC/DC motor maintenance.
Over the course of his career, Buzz has performed a wide range of maintenance and installation operations to include startup, repair, calibration/testing, and equipment retrofits, as well as training of personnel. He also holds extensive certifications on a wide spectrum of specialties in electric and electronic systems, in addition to calibration maintenance of most models of excitation systems.
Buzz brings to ProTec direct experience with diverse OEMs to include GE, Basler, Westinghouse, Siemens, and Woodward. He has contributed with his leadership and knowledge, to a variety of publications on EPRI Diesel Voltage Regulators. Buzz is also a U.S. Navy veteran, where he originally started developing his career as an electric/electronic professional.
